Greater Bunbury firefighters have been kept busy with two separate fires prompting emergency warnings in the last week.

Gelorup residents were told to leave or get ready to defend their properties as an out-of-control bushfire threatened lives and homes on Thursday.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control after it burnt through 80ha of land.

A bushfire in Wellesley sparked a second emergency warning for the region on Sunday when more than 100 firefighters battled to contain the blaze.

The fire came dangerously close to properties as it burnt through more than 55ha of land before it was contained.
