If you were one of the many motorists heading south on Forrest Highway at the weekend you would have noticed a new eye-catching entry statement.

Erected at the northern entry to Bunbury, the digital billboard promotes all the Bunbury Geographe region has to offer and warmly greets travellers with a “kaya” or “hello”.

The $400,000 project was jointly funded by the Bunbury City Council and State Government and included construction and further landscaping to create an attractive entry point to the city.

South West Development Commission chief executive officer Mellisa Teede said the entry statement created a sense of arrival and a glimpse of the local experiences available for visitors.

“There used to be a perception amongst some travellers that Bunbury was a place to bypass on the way down south, but this is no longer the case,’” Ms Teede said.

“There is amazing street art, heritage trails and a great selection of cafes, restaurants and shops to explore — just some of the reasons for visitors to turn right at the roundabout.”

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the new billboard acts as a striking reminder for motorists of all Bunbury has to offer.

“This new digital billboard will hopefully entice those few who are perhaps unaware of Bunbury’s attractions and opportunities,” Mr Brennan said.

“The positioning of the billboard is the perfect location to catch people’s attention and to tempt them to stop in Bunbury.”

Bunbury MLA Don Punch said he was pleased to see recognition of the traditional Noongar owners of the Bunbury area incorporated into the statement

The entrance statement is located at the northern information bay on Forrest Highway, north of the Bunbury Farmers Market.
