Harvey-born netballer Donnell Wallam to attend Commonwealth Games as a reserve athlete for Australian Diamonds

Despite missing out on a spot on the Diamonds’ Commonwealth Games squad, Harvey’s own Donnell Wallam is still set to travel to the UK as a reserve. The Australian Diamonds announced the final 12-person squad set to take part in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, along with the three athletes they will take as reserves. The star-studded Diamonds squad includes West Coast Fever’s Sunday Aryang and Courtney Bruce, along with Liz Watson, Steph Wood, Sarah Klau, Jo Weston, Ash Brazill, Paige Hadley, Kate Moloney, Kiera Austin, Gretel Bueta and Cara Koenen. Watson was named captain of the squad, while Wood will serve as vice-captain. Wallam will join Ruby Bakewell-Doran and Jamie-Lee Price as reserves for the squad. The Diamonds, who are ranked number one in the world, will complete training camps in Perth and Manchester prior to the Birmingham Games starting next month. Australian Diamonds head coach Stacey Marinkovich said she was excited for the squad to start working towards the Birmingham Games. “Selection for any international series – especially the Commonwealth Games – is never easy,” she said. “We have such great depth of talent in Australian netball, across every position on the court, and I congratulate the 12 athletes who have been selected to compete at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. “I’m incredibly excited to work with this group of athletes and build on our connection both on and off the court, starting with a training camp in Perth next month.”
