A 19-year-old man running late for work in Perth after sleeping in during a camping trip in Collie on Australia Day has lost his licence after being caught speeding on the way there. Joshua James Forrester was sentenced at Bunbury Magistrates Court on March 7 after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving at speeds exceeding 155km/h or more. Police prosecutor Sgt David Groenenberg told the court Mr Forrester was caught driving his vehicle at 156km/h in a 110km/h zone by a speed camera in Binningup on January 27. Mr Forrester’s lawyer said he accepted the facts and told the court her client “had been camping in Collie” on January 26, he had slept in and was running late for his job in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs, which started at 4.30am. Magistrate Benjamin Tyers fined Mr Forrester $1200 and was ordered to pay $264.30 in court costs. He was also disqualified for driving for six months.
