Production to inspire learnings about endangered animal species in Bunbury

A new production which aims to inspire people to know more about endangered animal species is coming to Bunbury. ARC by Erth Inc is a new production heading to Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre this month and will feature three shows, premiering on August 20. Erth Visual and Physical will be bringing the production to the BREC, aiming to move, inspire and educate audiences young and old. The show is an intimate tale about the mass extinction of species, which invites the audience to get up close and personal with snow leopards, hammerhead sharks, microbats, elephants and other vulnerable species. The performance explores the natural world of the animals which co-exist, and poses questions about their relationship with mankind, and the changing natural environment, the vulnerability of humans, and the fragility of the ecosphere. Artistic director, creator and performer Scott Wright said the show revealed a menagerie of very fragile and critically endangered animals for the audience to learn about. “The show is called ARC, which is Latin, and means a place to keep something precious.” he said. “The show has a particular focus on endangered species, so we have a beautiful range of incredible animals from all over the world — everything from a tiny little leadbeater possum, right up to an elephant, and we have rhino and polar bear and everything in between. “The show originally was inspired by a visit to the Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, where they have taken on the responsibility of trying to bring leadbeater possums out of being critically endangered. Mr Wright said he was proud of the show, and felt the theme and inspiration behind it was better received and understood by regional audiences because they were “closer to nature” and more exposed to wild animals. “It is in honour of my wife, who passed away,” he said. “She was a massive animal lover, and so we’ve made the show in honour of her. “I’m just really proud that we can make a work like this that has so much resonance for so many people.” The production has been brought to BREC as part of their Creative Learning Program for 2024. ARC will be showing at BREC on August 20, with school performances during the day, and one for the general public at 6pm.
