SWSA: Manjimup Rovers face pair of loses in final round of 2024 season

The Manjimup Rovers ended their 2024 South West Soccer Association season with a pair of losses, with the women losing by two goals and the men losing by six while both playing away. The women’s team travelled to play Margaret River on Sunday, eventually going down 4-2. Rovers’ Georgie Purse gave the Manjimup team a quick lead with the first goal of the match, but Margaret River got on the board with a Rovers’ own goal. Margaret River then scored with Chloe Willsher and Jennifer Boyle hitting the net before the half-time break. After the break, Margaret River’s Georgia Gillam secured another, with Rovers’ Rita Solomon answering, but the Rovers sat out of favour at the final whistle. The men’s team travelled to play Geographe Bay, losing 7-1 during their Saturday morning match. Manjimup Rovers struggled for numbers, with Geographe Bay taking advantage with consecutive goals early on as Sayad Abbas Hashimi and David Wright scored back-to-back goals for the host team. Tack Burns scored Rovers’ only goal of the match during a penalty. However, Geographe continued their dominance and led 5-1 at the half-time break. They notched up two more after the break, while Rovers failed to hit the back of the net again. The two Manjimup teams will host their presentation night on September 28.
