National Volunteer Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the commitment of volunteers across the country.

In recognition of the commemorations, which ran from May 20-26, a group of volunteers from Brunswick Junction gathered at St Peter’s Anglican Church to sing hymns, share stories, and celebrate the dedication of those across the region.

The Wednesday May 22 gathering was made up of volunteers from the Australian Red Cross, St John WA, Brunswick Community Resource Centre, Roelands-Olive Hill Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Brunswick Lions Club and more.

Organised by community stalwart and Red Cross volunteer Judy Talbot, the group gathered in the church to enjoy a thanksgiving service.

As one of the town’s most prominent residents, Mrs Talbot has been integral to the celebration of volunteers throughout the region for decades.

She has helped organise these celebrations since the first National Volunteer Week, and said this year’s service was a great experience.

“I am delighted with the turnout,” she said.

“This is a way of showing support to all the people and the work they put in over the past 12 months.”

Leaving the church, the volunteers gathered to enjoy cake, coffee and quiche at a morning tea.

Brunswick CRC volunteer Wendy Jordensen said it was lovely being surrounded by other volunteers and being able to recognise others from around the community.

She said she was grateful to be around so many volunteers within the Brunswick community.
