Although the Firebirds’ bid for a Suncorp Super Netball finals berth lies in a precarious position, Harvey’s Donnell Wallam has returned to her fiery best. In the second First Nations round in the 2022 Super Netball season, the Queensland Firebirds hosted the Giants at Nissan Arena on Saturday, where the Giants prevailed in a 73-72 thriller. Wallam sported white face paint in recognition of her Noongar heritage prior to her brilliant display on the court. She finished with 37 goals and four super shots, including two she sank during the last quarter to give the Firebirds a one-goal advantage during the last minute. Wallam also managed 13 goal assists, a rebound and 15 feeds. It comes days after Wallam shared a heartwarming exchange with teammate Jemma Mi Mi where she named the mid-courter as her inspiration. “You really inspire me and I’m sure a lot of other Indigenous girls and just seeing you pave the way through netball, it’s amazing,” she said.
