WANL 2022: Souwest Jets smash Peel Lightning by 20 goals to break losing streak
After eight rounds, the Souwest Jets have finally snapped their losing streak with a convincing 20-goal win over Peel Lightning.
The Jets hosted the Lightning at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday in round 11 of the 2022 WANL season, where they showed off their Indigenous-themed dresses ahead of NAIDOC Week celebrations.
It was a strong start for the Jets, who were firing out the gates to obtain the early lead in front of their home crowd.

READ NOWThe Lightning seemed to be caught unawares and were ultimately kept to scoring within the single digits while the Jets led by seven goals at quarter time.
The Jets continued to assert dominance during the second term with strong driving and dynamic defence, going on to score 16 goals for the term and extend their lead out to 12 goals by half time.
Following the main break, the Jets’ dominance continued into the third quarter with their shooters managing a further 16 goals to extend their lead even further.
Although the Lightning tried their hardest to salvage their first-half efforts, they continued to trail 47-30 at three-quarter time.
The final term saw the Jets continue to extend their lead with their strong approach on the court.
Several months of close losses, injuries and COVID-19-related absences washed away as the Jets went on to take the win 60-40, with Giselle Taylor scoring a game-high 31 goals while Sophie Eastaugh managed 22 goals.
Following the match, Brooke Gibson and Riley Culnane were named the Jets’ most valuable players for the match.
Meanwhile in the 20 & Under competition, the Jets were no match for the Lightning, who won 70-48.
The Jets are set to have a busy weekend with their round 12 match-up against Southside Demons taking place at the Gold Netball Centre on Friday night, while their round 13 match against Rangers will take place on Sunday.
