East Kimberley braces for heavy rain as Tropical Cyclone Tiffany moves west over Top End

The East Kimberley is in line for significant rainfall throughout the remainder of the week, as Tropical Cyclone Tiffany moves west over the Northern Territory towards Western Australia.

After weakening over northern Queensland, Tiffany re-intensified overnight and crossed the east coast of the NT as a category one cyclone.

The system is expected to be downgraded as it moves west towards the East Kimberley, where it is expected to land on Friday.

Daily rainfall totals of 100-150mm are expected in parts of the Top End and the East Kimberley, with severe weather warnings in place across the border at Timber Creek and Katherine.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, there is a small chance the system could move over waters just north-east of the Kimberley on Friday, however it is unlikely to become a tropical cyclone again over WA.

Flood watches are expected to be issued across the Kimberley in the next few days.
