Commuters have been warned to prepare for heavy traffic on Roe Highway after a car caught fire in Willetton.

The blaze was reported to emergency services around 5.55am on the southbound lane just before Willeri Drive.

It is understood firefighters have managed to get the fire under control but traffic is still heavy in the area, with cars backed up to Oorong Road in Carlisle.

Main Roads WA has advised motorists to exercise caution and seek an alternative route, if possible.
