UPDATE: Main Roads says the rolls of fabric scattered across the Mitchell Freeway on Wednesday morning had been cleared.

There was traffic chaos earlier when multiple rolls of the blue fabric littered the freeway northbound just prior to Hutton Street in Osborne Park.

The hazard, strewn across all lanes of the busy stretch of tarmac, prompted an urgent warning from Main Roads.

Main Roads warned drivers to approach the area with caution until the rolls of fabric were removed.

Traffic had banked and was heavy on approach.

The bizarre incident comes after cows caused havoc on the South Western Highway in Byford in May.

Emergency services were called to the commotion after a car hit one of the animals on the morning of Wednesday, May 25.

A witness said the car was completely destroyed.

“Two cars have actually hit one or maybe two of the cows, destroyed one of the cars and severely damager another Hilux, so people should keep an eye on the road because there might be more cows,” he said.

“We caught one of them (cows), the other one’s finished.”

On the same day, traffic was also slow on the Kwinana Freeway northbound lane just after Leach Highway in Brentwood after an accident.
