A 34-year-old woman has been charged after she allegedly escaped from a prison in Perth’s inner suburbs.

Detectives from the rapid apprehension squad were urgently searching for Khe-Sanh Michealah Farrell, 34, after she allegedly escaped from Boronia Pre-Release Centre for Women around 2.30pm on Sunday.

The low-security facility, which houses female prisoners in a community-style setting, is located on Hayman Road near Curtin University in Bentley.

A WA Police spokesman confirmed Ms Farrell had been taken into custody in Midland on Sunday night, several hours after a police hunt was launched.

She has been charged with escaping from lawful custody and is due to face Perth Magistrates Court on Monday.

While the exact details surrounding her arrest are unknown, it is understood police were investigating whether anybody assisted Ms Farrell on Sunday.

A Department of Justice spokeswoman said the facility was placed into lockdown after staff in the control room were alerted to a “zone breach” around 3pm.

“The facility was placed in lockdown as per security protocols and police were contacted once the breach was confirmed.”

It comes after three women were charged over a jailbreak at the same facility in February 2022. Police found the trio at a Belmont address more than 48 hours after they escaped the Bentley facility.

Anyone with new information regarding the incident, or regarding anybody who may have assisted Ms Farrell, is urged to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
