Water cut off in Merredin after police car gets stuck in sinkhole on Great Eastern Highway

Police officers from the Wheatbelt town of Merredin have had a ‘hole lot of fun’ after their car got stuck in a large sinkhole on the Great Eastern Highway last night.

The surprise sinkhole, which was full of muddy water, is believed to have been caused by a burst water pipe.

Police say, as a result, the town was without water overnight but it has now been restored. Repair work is still being carried out on the road.

Luckily no one was hurt and the officers were able to pull the car out with the help of a local towing company.

“Last night was a hole lot of fun,” Merredin Police posted on social media.

“Thanks to Northam Towing for helping us out of this one.”
