A young British woman who travelled to WA to start a new life with her boyfriend has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash.
Annie Evans-Lewis had just entered her 20s when she made the big move from her home in Carmarthen, Wales, all the way to Perth to be with partner Cai James.
But on May 23, the couple’s plans for their “wonderful new life” took a tragic turn when Ms Evans-Lewis was driving in East Pingelly and veered off the road, slamming into a tree.
She suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital but, sadly, could not be saved.
Now her heartbroken family have been left to cover the costs of bringing her body home.
In a GoFundMe started to help with the costs of repatriation, funeral care fees and flights to Australia, Ms Evans-Lewis has been remembered as a “beloved daughter” and a “friend to many”.
“She will always be remembered as the most energetic, chaotic, hilarious, loving, kind and down to earth person,” it says on the page.
Ms Evans-Lewis’ mum and her aunty have made their way to Perth following the tragedy.
The GoFundMe has raised more than its target of £35,000 ($66,000), with loved-ones thanking those who have donated.
“Annie’s passing was so sudden and unexpected,” a statement on the GoFundMe reads.
“There was no way we would be able to easily cover these costs without the donations that have been provided by you, and for that, we will be eternally grateful.”
