The city has been pummelled with rain and gusty winds as a cold front passed over the the city overnight, but some suburbs were hit harder than others.

Perth received 11mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday, but it was Pearce that copped the biggest downpour — recording a whopping 50mm of rain as a series of thunderstorms “trained” across the same area.

Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman Jessica Lingard said the storms passed across the Pearce area “like carriages on a train”, with some suburbs receiving more than quadruple the rain than that of other areas.

“Because of the isolated nature of the thunderstorms, it means that some areas got an awful lot less and some areas got a lot more rain,” Ms Lingard said.

A severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall was issued for Perth and the surrounding areas on Friday afternoon, but by 3pm the warning was downgraded.

Ms Lingard said more showers are expected for the rest of Saturday with another 8-10mm predicted.

“Farmers in the agricultural areas get quite excited when they get rainfall over double digits so there were lots of sites through the Wheatbelt an the Great Southern which got double digits so I’m sure there are some happy farmers out there, which is always good,” she said.

On Friday Cooloongup locals Len and Cheryl Jackson made the most of the wet weather after a heavy morning downpour flooded the area.

Cheryl filmed her husband taking their paddle board for a spin down their street.

In the video, Len paddles casually down their street until he reaches a very flooded intersection. He turns the paddle board and makes his way back to the house.
