Letter to the Editor: Listen to our teachers as they march for better pay and conditions

I am a volunteer at a local Albany Primary School, never been a teacher.

On Tuesday, I marched with the teachers and listened to their arguments for better pay, conditions and where the education system is going off target.

My observation as an outsider in the classroom is this generation of children is being taught in a damaged education system, brought about by influences from big business, who seem to have convinced the Education Department that electronic programs can replace teachers.

Thus, reducing the respect and importance of individual teachers, no wonder so many are leaving the profession.

There is a bigger picture - the danger of the next generation with limited vision and only one line of thought, as a result of what they are being fed.

Please listen to teachers at the coalface and have pride in being a multi-thinking human society.
