VideoWestern Australian Treasurer Rita Saffioti delivers her third state budget amid Middle Eastern conflict impacts and cost-of-living pressures.

Nearly 25,000 people are not eligible for the State Government’s $100 handout because their drivers licence is suspended.

While the only test for the State Budget sweetener — dubbed the fuel support payment — is having a driver’s licence, the caveat is it must be valid. Anyone whose licence has been suspended, cancelled or expired will miss out.

Learner drivers and even holders of extraordinary licences are eligible for the $100.

The money, which will be paid directly into bank accounts via the Government’s ServiceWA app, will be free to use on anything, not just at the bowser and will be made available on July 1 for around two million people.

Motorists are being encouraged to use the ServiceWA app as the “fastest and most convenient” way to access the payment from July 1.

More than two million people are eligible, although only about 500,000 currently have the app to apply.

The ServiceWA app is the same way the Government has distributed the Student Assistance Payment of $250 for high school students and $150 for each primary school child.

Anyone who hasn’t yet used the app will need to download it and create an account by using a Digital ID made through the Federal Government’s myID app.

The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure says there will also be alternatives for those who can not, or do not want to, use the app.
