Police stations in Gosnells, Rockingham and Warwick would remain open until 7pm on weekdays under a re-elected McGowan Government.

Premier Mark McGowan said the election pledge would improve access to the stations for people that worked full-time and were currently unable to attend before their existing 4pm closing times.

Extending opening hours for the three stations would boost the number of police facilities that are open either 24/7 or until 7pm to 16 across the metropolitan area.

Law and order shapes as a key election battleground with both Mr McGowan and Opposition leader Zak Kirkup already promising to dramatically ramp up recruiting of police — Labor by 950 additional officers and the Liberals by 1200.

“A re-elected WA Labor Government will build on its record of investing in local policing to keep our community safe,” Mr McGowan said.

“We understand that for some people it is difficult to visit a police station between 8am and 4pm.

“By extending the opening hours at Rockingham, Gosnells and Warwick, local residents will have more access to the police services they require. This will complement our unprecedented investment in police numbers, the biggest in the State’s history.”
