Fremantle star Mim Strom is set to make an instant return after missing a game for the first time in her career against Essendon, but Emma O’Driscoll has been ruled out of playing this week.

Strom was a late withdrawal from the win on Sunday after her shoulder injury pulled up sore from the captain’s run, but with another week under her belt, she should slot straight back in.

She had played 78 uninterrupted games before that.

A timeline has yet to be confirmed for O’Driscoll, who sustained an ankle injury at Cockburn Arc on Sunday.

The club confirmed she had been sent for scans on the injury but were still investigating the extent of the damage.

“It was an unfortunate incident for Emma, we’re still investigating,” AFLW High Performance Manager Tom Sutherland said.

“We’ve had early scans and are still talking to medical professionals, she’ll definitely be out this week but timelines are still to be determined.”

In some positive news for the Dockers, who faced Western Bulldogs on Saturday, midfielder Aisling McCarthy is on track to be available for selection this week after recovering from a knee complaint.

“Smash is progressing well; we’re hopeful she’ll get through training this week, so she’ll also be a test to play,” Sutherland said.

West Coast also had some positive news with defender Jess Rentsch getting closer to a return.

The Eagles revealed that she is due to lock in a “return-to-play timeframe” this week as she works back from a foot concern.

“Jess has progressed well in her rehabilitation, with a return-to-play timeframe to be based on how she trains this week,” High Performance Manager Sam Batterton said.

“Her professionalism and training intensity has allowed her to make excellent progress.”

Midfielder Abby Bushby, who left the field during the second quarter of the Eagles’ upset win over Brisbane on Saturday, is set for scans on an adductor injury.

She is ineligible to face St Kilda this week, regardless, after accepting a one-match ban for rough conduct, but she could spend an extended stint on the sidelines.

“Bushy’ was removed from the game in the second quarter after reporting discomfort in her adductor, and she will have scans to determine the severity of the injury,” Batterton said.
