Fremantle defensive coach Matthew Boyd says the Dockers are “pretty keen” to lock Griffin Logue in on a fresh contract as interest builds in him from interstate rivals.

Speaking on ABC Radio Boyd said Logue’s competitiveness and versatility had been a big plus for the Dockers this year.

“I can’t speak for list management and the recruitment side of things but he has clearly proven his worth to us this year,” he said.

Several Melbourne clubs have expressed interest in Logue and Brisbane is also understood to have joined the race with growing concern that Daniel McStay will leave to join Collingwood.

“He (Logue) probably had some indifferent form earlier in the year and he found himself out of the team but since coming back into the team he has proven to be a really versatile player for us,” Boyd said.

Logue, 24, has played 55 AFL games including 11 of Fremantle’s 14 games this year.

He played valuable roles in attack for Fremantle against Melbourne, Brisbane and Hawthorn and returned to defence to play on Carlton gun Charlie Curnow last weekend.

“We have had the luxury of being able to assess what the opposition has been doing week on week and either put Griff forward and play that key forward role for us or put him down back like we were able to do last week,” Boyd said.

“I thought he competed really hard and played a pretty good game albeit we were against a rampaging Blues forward line.”

“He is a really important player for us. We love what he brings to the table, his competitiveness, his versatility and his athleticism, he is a really important player for us

“I don’t sit in on list management decisions but no doubt the club is pretty keen to lock him away.”
