Fremantle spearhead Aine Tighe has been ruled out for the entire 2026 AFLW season.
The club confirmed on Wednesday that Tighe has been placed on the inactive list as she continues her recovery from an ACL injury sustained in October last year.
Fremantle women’s footy boss Claire Heffernan said the decision was made following ongoing discussions with Tighe, who was already expected to miss most of the club’s 2026 campaign.
The move opens up a list spot for the Dockers ahead of the AFLW pre-season draft on Monday.
“After ongoing consultation with Aine and her management, the decision has been made to place Tighe on the inactive list for 2026,” Heffernan said.
“Áine has been incredibly diligent in her rehab, but given the complexities surrounding her knee injury, this decision gives her the best opportunity to prioritise her long-term health.”
The luckless forward hurt her right knee in round nine last season, in her fist game back since injuring the same knee in 2024.
And while she is set for more time on the sidelines this year, Heffernan said the Irish star will continue to have an impact off the field.
“While she won’t be stepping on field in 2026, it’s very important to both Áine and the program that she stays connected to playing group,” she said.
“Aine is a natural leader who is deeply respected by her teammates and staff members. Her football IQ, professionalism and coaching experience as the Female NGA and Game Development Coach make her an invaluable asset to the club and our program”.
Tighe is contracted with the Dockers until the end of the 2027 AFLW Season.
