Fremantle Dockers spearhead Josh Treacy reveals secret to career-best marking day
Fremantle spearhead Josh Treacy has revealed the training method behind his personal-best afternoon in Fremantle’s 60-point win over Richmond.
Treacy was a monster in the air as the Dockers went on a run of eight unanswered goals to blow an understaffed Richmond out of the water at a soggy Optus Stadium on Saturday.
The towering forward clunked a career-best 12 marks despite the slippery conditions, looking almost unbeatable in the one-on-one contests.
He wasn’t able to take full toll of his monster day, booting 4.3 as the Dockers equalled their club record of 25 for behinds.
Asked after the game about the key to his glue-like hands, Treacy said it all came back to “soapy buckets”.
“I put a lot of time and effort into that, it’s something I do a lot of reps of,” he told Fox Footy post-game.
“We had the soapy buckets of water out during the week, and I made sure I got a lot of reps in catching that and preparing for today.”
Treacy wasn’t the only Dockers forward to cash in on Fremantle’s huge 41 to 26 clearance advantage as Jye Amiss and Pat Voss also ended the game with three goals between them.
However, Treacy said the trio were far from the finished product, in ominous signs for the rest of the competition.
“I like to get up the ground, Jye and Vossy hold a little bit deeper, and I feel like we’re really dynamic and we have our own strengths to bring to the table,” he said.
“We feel like that upsets a lot of backlines, so we’ll continue to evolve that. We’re not a finished product; we’ve got a long way to go.
“Vossy really copped it a lot during the week, and we put our arms around him, and I couldn’t be prouder of him.”
