Australia's world No.1 Laura Peel has claimed second place in the aerial skiing World Cup round in Moscow.

The defending series champion, Peel (92.72) was edged out by American Winter Vinecki (91.11) who claimed her maiden World Cup win under lights on Saturday night, with Canada's Marion Thenault (90.59) third.

Peel led through qualifications as well as the first round of finals while impressing with her trademarks triple flips.

In the super final she went for a full-full-full, and while it was clearly the most difficult trick in women's competition, the judges were not sufficiently impressed with her execution and landing.

The 22-year-old Vinecki executed a new trick in her repertoire - a double full-full - in the final.

I just can't believe it," said Vinecki, "It's been a long road coming back from injuries and being so close to podiums so many times. I don't know how many top sixes I have had, and so to finally have that podium moment - let alone that first place - is incredible."
