Beth Mooney believes Perth Scorchers teammate Taneale Peschel deserves to be in Australia’s Twenty20 squad for their tour of New Zealand next month.

The Australian T20 World Cup hero couldn’t speak highly enough of the emerging seamer after their first Women’s Big Bash League campaign together.

Peschel, 26, grabbed 13 wickets in WBBL06 at an average of 21.7 and economy rate of 6.13 runs per over.

Mooney, the world’s top-ranked T20 batter, signed with the Scorchers this summer on a two-year deal, with Peschel one of several new allies to impress her.

The team made it through to the semi-finals before they were knocked out by Melbourne Stars.

“We had a really good list this year and I was really impressed with a lot of the girls who I obviously spent more time playing against than I have playing with,” Mooney said.

“I think Taneale Peschel was outstanding for us so hopefully that does enough for her to get a seat on the plane over there.

“She’s definitely a bowler to keep an eye on. She’s very versatile, bowls at different parts of the game and has a lot of variations.

“I was really impressed with her so hopefully we see her over there.”

Australia travel across the ditch for three T20s (starting March 28 in Hamilton) and three One-Day Internationals (starting April 4 in Mount Maunganui) against the Kiwis.

Peschel will likely get more chances to push for higher honours with WA’s Women’s National Cricket League title defence kicking off away to Tasmania on Wednesday.
