WAFL 2024: Swan Districts regain spearhead Leigh Kohlmann for clash against West Perth

Swan Districts have added more firepower to a side on a five-game winning streak with spearhead Leigh Kohlmann back for their clash against West Perth. Kohlmann, 32, had been a revelation for the Swans this season having kicked 22 goals in seven games since returning from the South West, but hasn’t played since round eight when sustained a concussion he sustained against the Falcons. In his absence Tom Edwards has stood tall, kicking 17 goals in five games but will need to form a strong combination as the Swans pursue a top-three finish. Young forward Max Chipper has made way for Kohlmann’s return for the clash in Joondalup on Saturday. The Falcons have made two changes with ruckman Riley Sprigg dropped and Tristan Hobley out because of work commitments, with speedster Sasha Kernutt and Darcy Dixon coming into the side. Boorloo (Perth) will be without key recruit Sam Simpson for the rest of the season after he ruptured a central tendon in his hamstring in the final quarter of their drought-breaking win over West Perth last weekend. It ends a tough first year for the former Geelong midfielder who has played only four games for the Demons because of a series of soft tissue injuries. The Demons have also lost ruckman Josh Edwards with Elijah Scoble and Ned Shannon coming in as they prepare to host reigning premiers East Fremantle at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday. The Sharks have also made three changes, with captain Matt Jupp to miss because of concussion, Tom Joyce out with injured ribs and premiership player Josh Schoenfeld has been dropped. Defender Lennon Marlin returns alongside Chris Walker who will play his first league game since late last season and forward Max Murphy is also included. South Fremantle will be without speedster Brandon Donaldson because of a hamstring injury and have dropped Manfred Kelly and Ashton Ferreira for their game against Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium. The Bulldogs have recalled Chase Bourne, Mitch Sinnott and Robert Turnbull to take on the unchanged Tigers outfit that has pushed into the top five. First-round draft fancy Bo Allan has returned straight into Peel Thunder’s senior side after leading WA in the National Under-18 Championships, being named as one of seven inclusions to take on West Coast down in Mandurah. The Thunder have regained plenty of AFL experience with several Fremantle-listed players coming into the side in defender Hugh Davies, forwards Pat Voss, Tom Emmett and Cooper Simpson and wingman Nathan O’Driscoll. Draftee Jack Delean is one of five players who have been dropped, while Brennan Cox (AFL) and Brady Grey (shoulder) are also out. The Eagles have lost Harvey Johnston, Jack Williams and Jack Hutchinson to AFL duties but defender Harry Edwards and forward-turned-wingman Ryan Maric are set to come into the side after not travelling with the AFL squad. Subiaco will be without Ky Franceschini (hamstring) for their clash against fellow Sullivan Logistics Stadium tenants East Perth. The Lions have dropped Jake Stergiou, with Keeshawn Cook and Judd Kelman coming into the team, while Zachary Raykos returns for the Royals after being a late out of the side that defeated South Fremantle last weekend, with Taylor North omitted.
