West Coast are set for a 36-year first after naming four AFL debutants for their season opener against Gold Coast at People First Stadium on Sunday.

The Eagles have announced they will unveil all three of their first-round draftees in Willem Duursma (No.1), Cooper Duff-Tytler (No.4) and Josh Lindsay (No.19) for their season opener against premiership fancies the Suns.

The trio of teenagers will be joined by pre-season signing Milan Murdock, with The West Australian exclusively revealing the 25-year-old would also make his AFL debut only 17 days after signing.

It will be the first time since 1990 that the Eagles will play four first-gamers in any game, when future Norm Smith medallists Peter Matera and Dean Kemp made their debuts alongside Dean Irving and Brad Gwilliam in a 46-point win over Collingwood at Subiaco Oval in round one.

Midfielder Deven Robertson is also make his debut for the Eagles after crossing from Brisbane last year, having played 47 games in six seasons alongside former Richmond defender Tylar Young.

Former Collingwood first-round draftee Finn Macrae is also a chance to play his first game for West Coast after he was named on the extended bench.

Veteran midfielder Jack Graham has also been named at half-forward after being listed as a test because of a hamstring injury.

The team will look almost unrecognisable from the one that last played, with 11 players named in the extended squad who didn’t suit up in the side that lost by 67 points to Sydney at Optus Stadium in round 24.

“We are a different team, there’s no doubt about that,” Eagles coach Andrew McQualter said.

“Our list has changed a lot over a small period of time, so there will be new players in our team which is incredibly exciting for us.”

Duursma — who is only the fourth No.1 pick in the Eagles’ history — is set to start on a wing having played several positions in his draft year.

“I feel really good, it’s going to be a big challenge,” Duursma said.

“They (Gold Coast) are a really good team, and for us as a young team, we are just going to go and compete as hard as we can, and I just can’t wait to play my first game with the boys.”

Duff-Tytler will play as a forward-ruck, with the 200cm Victorian having been compared to Fremantle’s Luke Jackson and St Kilda recruit Tom De Koning because of his incredible athleticism.

“I was pretty nervous, I knew team selection was going to be today, and I really wanted my name to get read out,” Duff-Tytler said.

“For ‘Flynny’ (Matt Flynn), who has mentored me since I got here, to tell me out on the track that I’d been picked was pretty surreal.

“I’m just so pumped to get over to Gold Coast with the boys this weekend.”

Lindsay has bolted to a round one debut on the back of a strong start to 2026 which culminated in a starring performance in the pre-season defeat to Port Adelaide when he had 22 disposals and kicked a goal from half back.

“I’m stoked. It’s a dream come true and something I’ve always wanted,” Lindsay said.

“To share it with some of my best mates, I’m just so happy and can’t wait to get out there.”

McQualter praised the teenagers who are set to embark on lengthy careers.

“All of our draftees have come in and shown they’re going to be great players for a long time,” he said.

“Willem in particular — he’s so versatile and athletic. He’s a competitor so throughout the year we’re going to get some great performances from him.

“But understanding that these young draftees are still 18 years old and this is a pretty tough caper, so we don’t want to put too high of expectations on them.”

The Suns have added Jed Walter to the extended squad after he served his one-match suspension as well as ruckman Ned Moyle and defender Caleb Graham.
