Major crash investigation launched after serious Hay collision, one driver airlifted with critical injuries

Major crash officers have launched an investigation into a serious crash that happened near Denmark on Tuesday, leaving a man with critical injuries. The incident was reported to police at about 12.30pm on Tuesday in Hay, when a dark grey Toyota Kluger travelling west on East River Road and a white Toyota Prado travelling north on Denmark-Mt Barker Road collided. Emergency services including police, four ambulance crews, and volunteer fire and rescue crews from Denmark and Mt Barker rushed to the scene in the Shire of Denmark. The driver of the Toyota Prado, a 69-year-old man, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by fire and rescue crews. St John WA reported at the time he was suffering possible injuries to his arm and ribs. The RAC Rescue helicopter was also dispatched from Bunbury a short time later, and airlifted the 69-year-old to Royal Perth Hospital for medical treatment of critical injuries. The passenger of the Toyota Prado and all four occupants of the Toyota Kluger were taken via ambulance to Denmark Health Service under normal road conditions for treatment of minor injuries.
