VideoThe bushfire in the Shire of Harvey has been contained but not controlled.

A suspicious bushfire remains out of control after threatening lives and homes in Kemerton in the State’s South West overnight.

A watch and act warning has been issued for people in the vicinity of Ridgeview Way, Papalia Court and Plantation Outlook within the area bounded by Treasure Road, Wellesley Road North and Old Coast Road north of Kemerton in the Shire of Harvey.

The warning was downgraded from an emergency after about 50 firefighters spent Monday night making containment lines around the blaze.

The WA Parks and Wildlife Service says there is still a possible threat to lives and homes in the area.

A bushfire advice has been issued for people in the area bounded by Runnymede Road, Wellesley Road North and Rhodes Road in the Shire of Harvey.

Wellesley Road North is closed from Forrest Highway / Old Coast Road to Treasure Road.

The fire was first reported near Forrest Highway and Wellesley Road in Binningup just after 4.30pm.

The WA Parks and Wildlife Service said the cause of the fire was suspicious and have asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The deliberately lit blaze comes less than two weeks after the Shire of Harvey marked four years ago this month a deadly blaze destroyed 181 homes and claimed two lives in Yarloop in the Shire of Harvey.
