Boddington Football Club coach and player who exposed their genitals in a local pub dealt a fine and bar ban

A Boddington Football Club coach and player who both exposed their genitals to staff and community members at the local pub have been fined. Rodney Evan Williams, 59, and Jarrod Robert Salmeri, 24, appeared in Narrogin Magistrates Court on February 3, both charged with one count of indecent acts in public. In 2025 Williams was the league coach of the club while Salmeri returned from the WAFL to be a key part of the Eagles midfield. Williams and Salmeri had attended the Boddington Hotel on September 6 alongside their teammates after a football event. About 9.30pm, while in the main bar area, Williams approached the pool table where he pulled down his pants and exposed his genitals to staff. An hour later, Salmeri climbed up on the pool table also pulling down his pants to expose his genitals to members of the public. Both incidents were captured on CCTV footage. Police prosecutor Sgt Warrick Walker told the court that witnesses reported Williams wearing a condom when he exposed himself, but Williams, who was self represented, firmly denied that fact. Sgt Walker also told the court neither men had a prior record. Williams said he was “extremely disappointed” in his behaviour. Williams said he has a wife and two daughters and his actions were very out of character. The 59-year-old requested a spent conviction. Magistrate Rosemarie Myers asked Williams if the conviction would impact his employment, which he responded that it would not, and he had already confirmed with his employer he will not lose his job. She then asked what reasoning he had for a spent conviction if not employment and Williams said he travels recreationally and was afraid a criminal conviction will prohibit him from taking international holidays. Ms Myers said that airline security can see criminal convictions regardless of if they are spent or not, and she was not prepared to grant it for Williams’ hypothetical future holiday. She said Williams had also failed to provide a proper spent conviction application, so she denied the request. Ms Myers said that his behaviour “should not be an activity that is carried out” but did take Williams’ early plea into consideration when sentencing. Williams was fined $600 and issued $308.80 in costs. Salmeri’s lawyer Eva Svanberg told the court that her client did not remember the offending as he had been heavily intoxicated and instructed it “would never happen again”. Ms Svanberg said Salmeri may have found it funny at the time but now he is embarrassed and sincerely apologises to the Boddington Hotel staff and community. She said Salmeri had grown up in Boddington, playing and volunteering for the local football club throughout his life, and presented Ms Myers with two positive character references written by members of the football club. Ms Myers said that she understood “things can get crazy” on a night out but his behaviour is “unfair” on others who are at the public bar. Ms Myers acknowledged Williams’ appearance before Salmeri took the stand, she said “you’re not the only one”. She concluded Salmeri was unlikely to reoffend and considered his early plea and youth as mitigating factors to discount his sentence. Salmeri was fined $500 and $308.80 in costs. Ms Svanberg asked the court for a spent conviction, which Ms Myers approved because Salmeri was young and a criminal conviction could squander future employment opportunities. Williams and Salmeri were issued a ban by the Liquor Commission, which restricts individuals from entering specific licensed premises or consuming alcohol there for up to five years.
