An elderly man has died after his mobility scooter fell from a Perth train station platform and collided with a train this afternoon.

About 4.30pm the man, in his late 60s, fell from one of the Wellington Street station’s central platforms and couldn’t be saved.

Authorities briefly closed the platform while they recovered his body and scooter from the tracks.

Police said inquiries into the death were ongoing but there were no suspicious circumstances from initial investigations.

“A report will be prepared for the Coroner,” a police spokesman said.

The incident and closure caused delays on the Fremantle and Midland lines between City West and McIver stations.

By 5.45pm, trains were running back to schedule.
