WA teachers get creative with signs as they strike over working conditions and pay

The West Australian

Thousands of WA teachers have gathered with angry signs to vent their frustration at the State Government’s refusal to meet their demands for higher pay and better conditions.

Drum beats, chants and cheers are filling the air as teachers march across Matagarup Bridge on Tuesday morning from their Optus Stadium meeting point to a rally at Gloucester Park.

Teachers are shouting: “Overworked, underpaid, over it — support us, support students” and “share the surplus” as they march.

Placards jostle for attention with slogans such as “teachers need more than apples”, “I stand up for the kids”, “teacher burnout is why we have this turnout” and “get off your Buti”.
