Harvey Community Gala Night set to be the town’s ‘feel good’ festive event of the year

Harvey is ready to come alive with entertainment and kick start the Christmas season this year at the annual Harvey Community Gala Night on Friday. The gala will be held in the centre of town on Uduc Road, commencing at 5.30pm and finishing at 9pm. Event organiser Robyn Coleman said about 400 people are expected to gather for the event set to bring some festive cheer. It is set to be inclusive, “disability friendly” and “very multicultural”, Ms Coleman said. Rotary Club of Harvey member Jim Turner said the event focused on being a “community event bringing people together”. From gift stalls, entertainment, food, local retailers competitions and a special visit from Santa it will offer something for people of all ages. Santa will visit about 8.30pm and will coincide with plenty of popular entertainment for kids and families. There will be three competitions for best Christmas outfit for children aged up to 12 years, along with a prize for the best Christmas shop display in town and children’s drawing competition for the best interpretation of what Christmas means. Uduc Road will be closed between Hayward Street and Young Street for about five hours for the event. The gala has been running for about 20 years, with the event being supported by several organisations, including the Rotary Club of Harvey for the past six years. Other supporters of this year’s event include the South West Development Commission, the Shire of Harvey and the Harvey Post Shop.
