Harvey Hawks played hosts to Bunbury United in round 2 of the South West Soccer Association Division 2 competition on Sunday.

With more than 30mm falling just after kick-off, the conditions were challenging for both sides, but this did not stop the Harvey side from coming out strong and scoring their first goal, thanks to Julian Italiano within three minutes of the start to take the early lead.

As the rain continued to fall in the first half, Bunbury struggled to produce any options to equalise thanks to Harvey’s organised and strong defence.

By the half time whistle, two more goals from Kristian Frederiksen and Anthony Zappia meant Harvey went into the break 3-0 up.

In the second half Bunbury came out strong with the wind at their backs but they could not find the net.

As the final whistle sounded Harvey finished with a massive 5-0 victory over Bunbury, with Isaac Stanford beating the keeper from long range and Frederiksen grabbing a second.

Cody Ward took man of the match thanks to his strong positional play and creativity.

Undefeated in the league so far and without a goal conceded, the ten-year wait for senior football Harvey appears to have been worth it.
