Hopeful film prodigies at Harvey Senior High School have shot their way to the finals in one of WA’s biggest film festivals. The students’ film Treasure is one of eight short films set to be played at the CinefestOZ Film Festival in its first Year 7 to Year 9 category. Cinesnaps — now in its ninth year — will see two finalists from HSHS and Cape Naturaliste College as well as six entrants from the Year 10 to 12 category. HSHS media studies teacher Colin Newton said he was proud of the work his students created in their media classes. “It is a subject where they get to explore their ideas and create artistic works for others to enjoy,” he said “We are all pretty happy with the way it turned out and we had the support from parents and the school that we needed to produce something good.” Year 9 media student Chloe Basten said she was excited about the finale and the film turned out better than she had initially expected. “When we thought of ‘treasure’, the first thing that came to mind was pirates, so we incorporated this into film and made it the theme and main focus of our film, but with a little twist.” The CinefestOZ red carpet finale night in Busselton will take place on Thursday where films will be judged by a panel of industry professionals.
