Lionesses and Bulls vie for SWFL team
Seven Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and three Harvey Bulls players are in contention to represent the South West Football League women’s team in a historic representative clash next month.
Lionesses’ Montana Tate, Brittany Gliddon and Brianna Whyte were selected in the initial 35-player SWFL squad which is scheduled to verse the Peel Football League women’s side on June 17.
Teammates Lauren Patane, Louise Bignell, Amelia House and Claudia Porritt have also been included, alongside Bulls trio Michelle Mullins, Fleur Parker and boom midfielder Larissa Versaci.
The final team – announced on June 6 – will play the PFL women in a curtain-raiser prior to the Landmark Championship fixture between SWFL and PFL at Bendigo Bank Stadium on June 17.
Two training sessions will be held on May 29 and May 12 at Hands Oval, before the squad is trimmed.
SWFL general manager John Vidos said the game would be a “historic occasion” and continue the competition’s rivalry with the PFL.
“These women will be inaugural representatives of the South West Football League,” Mr Vidos said.
“Seeing as there was a regional Landmark game on that day, both leagues saw it as a good opportunity to be more inclusive.”
