Teen charged after “destroying” bonnet due to losing control of his car at Harvey Dam

A teenager who was camping at one of Harvey’s most popular tourist spots has been fined after he lost control of his car leaving the bonnet “destroyed”. Andrew John Morton, 18, entered an endorsed plea of guilty at Harvey Magistrates Court last week on a charge of careless driving. The court was told on September 21 at 1pm Morton was driving his vehicle on an unsealed road during a camping trip to Harvey Dam when he lost control and crashed into a tree. During his hearing, Morton said he had only had his licence just over a year and the car was too broken to fix. Magistrate Belinda Coleman said it was obviously just an accident and she was not going to interfere with the teenager’s licence. “Thankfully no one was hurt,” she said. Morton was found guilty of careless driving and received a $250 fine with court costs of $259.30.
