The details of a $14 million upgrade to one of the biggest sports stadiums in the Harvey Shire was backed by the council last week. Council gave the nod to a report outlining what works for a big development at the Leschenault Leisure Centre would look like over the next three years. It means the refurbishment will now be added to the shire’s draft Forward Capital Works Plan, outlining priority projects for Harvey. A detailed LLC report will also be completed to allow for tenders in the future. The two-stage overhaul would start with an initial court extension by next year and follow with further upgrades as well as additional facilities and infrastructure. The funding model includes $3 million from the WA Government and shows the need for $5 million from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, as well as a grant from Lotterywest. The push for the project comes from the shire’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, which aims to offer a range of services and encourage participation in community life.
