Waroona netball star Daniel Cools helps Western Roar to WANL men’s title
Waroona netball star Daniel Cools has put another exclamation point on an incredible year to date with victory in the West Australian Netball League men’s grand final at the weekend.
On Sunday, Cools starred in defence for the Western Roar as they beat the Curtin Hamersley Comets 61-45 to take the title.
The victory was Cools’ second WANL title in five years and capped off an incredible undefeated season for the Roar.
The win is part of a memorable 2022 for Cools, also a training partner for the West Coast Fever who won the Suncorp Super Netball League last month.
In May, the 190cm defender earned selection in the Australian men’s open squad after a successful Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association national championships for WA’s West Coast Thunder, who placed third in their best finish since 2007.
In a world-first, the Australian men’s team is set to tour alongside the Australian Diamonds women’s team later this year and play matches against New Zealand and England.
Cools said he was now on a mission to earn a spot in the Australian men’s team.
“I am really excited and pretty motivated to push myself a little more to hopefully get a spot in that team come tour time,” Cools said.
“My main goal has always been to win a nationals title with WA, but a massive personal goal behind that is to play for Australia.
“I didn’t think I’d ever achieve that, and to be so close now is really exciting.”
