Perth’s run of sunny winter weather is about to come to a soggy end with thunderstorms, heavy rain and the threat of flash flooding set to lash the city from Friday night.
Residents can enjoy one final sunny day on Thursday, with Perth forecast to reach 22C.
But the weather will take a dramatic turn on Thursday, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a very high chance of showers and a chance of severe thunderstorms in the evening.
Forecasters warn that heavy rain could trigger flash flooding as the wet weather system sweeps across the metropolitan area.
Perth is expected to get at least 15mm of rain and it could get up to 30mm if conditions worsen.
The soaking will then continue into the weekend, with Saturday bringing more showers — up to 25mm — and possible thunderstorms in the morning.
Sunday is also forecast to be wet, with showers and up to 10mm possible as temperatures struggle to climb above 18C.
The rain is expected to linger well into next week, with showers forecast every day through to at least Wednesday.
Perth has been enjoying a stretch of unusually warm winter weather, with temperatures reaching the low 20s this week — several degrees above average for late June.
But cooler, wetter conditions will keep temperatures for much of the next seven days 17C and 19C, with minimums dipping between 7C and 11C.
