A family of four, including two children, have been found dead in a suspected double murder suicide at a home in Mosman Park.

Police are investigating the horrific incident, at Mott Close, in Perth’s western suburbs, which involves the deaths of a mother, father, their two teenage sons and their pets.

The bodies of the 50-year-old father, a 49-year-old mother and their two boys —aged 14 and 16 — were discovered with a note at the home. Two dogs and a cat were also found dead at the property.

Detective Inspector Jessica Securo said the alarm was raised by a person who it is believed had been arranged to provide medical care to the teenagers.

“We do know that both children experienced significant health challenges,” she said.

She said there were no signs of violence at the home and police were investigating whether the children were killed before the parents took their own lives. “We will look at this holistically to see what led to this incident and go from there,” she said.

Det. Insp. Securo said the family was not known to police and had been working with care services before the incident.

“What I can advise is that there was no weapon used during this incident, and the family have no reported family violence matters with police,” she said.

Several streets surrounding the property have been closed as people are being urged to stay away from the area, which is one of Perth’s most affluent suburbs.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
