Indigenous elders and seniors have been celebrated for their wisdom and leadership at a NAIDOC Week luncheon.
Health service Bega Garnbirringu treated the older generation to a meal, games and prizes at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club on Tuesday.
Chief executive Marlon Fernando said Bega was honoured to recognise the elders’ wisdom, understanding, and contributions to the younger generation.
“We are privileged to celebrate . . . the important role that (the seniors) play in keeping culture, traditions and our community strong,” he said.
“NAIDOC week is an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, history, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to reflect on the importance of respect, learning, and working together.”
