Waroona firefighters given special award from primary school for keeping everyone safe
Students at Waroona’s St Joseph’s Primary School issued their heartfelt thanks to the Waroona Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services on Thursday, awarding the station with their school’s unique award.
The fire station was awarded the Making Jesus Real award, which is normally given out to students, staff or parents who show acts of kindness or qualities that “make Jesus real”.
The school decided to award the Waroona Fire Brigade this recognition for selflessly protecting the community against the fire which ravaged the region this past week.
St Joseph’s student Liam Simpson said thank you to the VFES for looking after the community and keeping everyone safe.
“We are very thankful for your service and commitment to your role and everyone is thankful for you,” he said.
“On behalf of this town, thank you.”
Fellow student Evie Pisconeri said she really appreciated everything the VFES did.
“The firefighters deserve our MJR award because they use their time to help protect the community,” she said.
“They stay up all night and are out all day fighting the flames to protect their families and people in the community.”
St Joseph’s principal Michael O’Dwyer expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteer firefighters who tirelessly served the community.
He said their selfless dedication embodied the spirit of Mary MacKillop and reflected the essence of Making Jesus Real.
“Service to others is a cornerstone of the positive psychology model, emphasising the importance of relationships and meaning,” he said.
