The RSCPA is probing the death of a greyhound after it was found buried with a wire wrapped around its neck in Perth’s southern suburbs.

A member of the public made the initial grim discovery earlier this month before a City of Kwinana ranger attended the animal’s shallow grave near Bampton Road, Orelia.

“Upon observation, the dog appeared to have sustained large scrapes to his front legs and the ranger believed the dog had been hit by a car and then strangled with a piece of wire which was digging into his skin when found,” the RSPCA said.

“The large male greyhound was black in colour with a white crest and was wearing a blue collar without an owner identification tag.“

It is unknown if the dog belonged to anyone .

The animal was transported to the City of Kwinana pound where it remains pending further investigation.

After it was discovered wrapped in four blood-soaked blankets, the animal was transported to the City of Kwinana pound where it remains pending further investigation.

The RSPCA says the animal was not microchipped and anyone with information about the suspected cruelty incident is urged to come forward.

“We are asking anyone who knows anything about this shocking incident to please contact RSPCA WA and let us know,” RSPCA WA Inspector Manager Kylie Green said.

People with information should contact the RSPCA WA 24-hour Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 358 or online at rspcawa.org.au and quote job number 191832.

Anyone who is served an animal cruelty conviction could face a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.
