A designer has been appointed to plan the $880,000 skate park in Harvey’s Meridan Park, with construction expected to start as early as next year. The “state-of-the-art” park will cater to many users, with multiple zones to allow for skills progression from beginner to advanced level, and would have the capacity to host small events and competitions. Residents will be invited to provide input into a concept design brief prior to the final design being provided to council over the coming months and it is expected the concept plan will be finalised by the end of October. Shire of Harvey president Paul Gillett said Playce had a proven track record in successfully delivering award-winning skate projects in Western Australia and the skate park project has already gained “a lot” of interest within the community. “This is a really exciting time for the community and we are looking forward to developing a skate park for the families in Harvey now and into the future,” he said. “Everyone will be able to have their say via online and face-to-face workshops, so we look forward to hearing what our community would like to see in the new Harvey skate park.” Construction is due to start in 2023 and is funded through an $880,000 contribution from the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
