Fire crews are battling a blaze in Perth’s southern suburbs.

A bushfire watch and act warning is in place for those in the area bounded by Newton Street, Marvell Avenue, Stock Road and Shelley Way in parts of Spearwood, Munster and Yangebup.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing,” the latest DFES alert warns.

The bushfire is moving in a southerly direction and it is not contained or controlled.

Newton Primary School in Spearwood is in the watch and act area. It is not clear if the school has been evacuated.

The Education Department has been contacted for comment.

Stock Road between Spearwood Avenue and Beeliar Drive has been closed.
