Caravan crash: Elderly man recovering with serious facial burns at hospital following horror Harvey rollover

An elderly man is still recovering in hospital with serious facial burns following a horrifying caravan rollover in the South West at the weekend. The man in his 80s is in a stable condition at Fiona Stanley Hospital when the caravan he was driving was obliterated on the South Western Highway, near the intersection of James Stirling Place, outside of Harvey on Saturday. Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service firefighters and DFES State Emergency Service volunteers quickly descended on the crash scene to extinguish a fire that started from the caravan’s wreckage. The RAC rescue helicopter was deployed to transport the man to Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch His female passenger — also in her 80s — was taken to Harvey Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Yarloop Police praised two Harvey police officers for their work in freeing the two victims from the burning vehicle. “But for the swift action of two Harvey Police officers, freeing two trapped occupants from a burning car, the outcome would have been unimaginable,” a Twitter post said. “A further huge thanks to fire crews from Harvey/Waroona, SES, SJA and those selfless members of the community who assisted.”
