Stoneville fatal crash: Three people killed in horror single-vehicle crash in Perth’s east

Three adults have been killed in a devastating single-vehicle crash in Stoneville, in the Perth Hills, in what follows a horror Easter long weekend on the roads which resulted in five deaths. About 8.50am on Saturday, a vehicle travelling on Stoneville Road left the road and crashed into a tree. “Three adults inside the vehicle received critical injuries and died at the scene,” a WA Police spokesperson said. Major Crash investigators were at the scene on Saturday morning to begin investigating. The aftermath of the fatal crash was still visible in the afternoon, with at least one large tree brought down and several others damaged after being struck by the vehicle. A large root at the roadside was barely connected to the ground while the remainder of a damaged tree had been placed on the other side of the road after the crash. Glass shards were also scattered near where the vehicle came to a stop. The crash occurred on a straight stretch of road which had an 80km/h speed limit. It was reopened to the public on Saturday afternoon. A first responder to the crash said the car became wedged between two trees after leaving the road. Brent Fuller raced to the scene on a quad bike after his neighbours alerted him to the incident. “It was up on its side, wedged between two trees . . . the roof was semi-ripped open,” he said. “(It was) like an old two-door Ford coup. I couldn’t really tell because (the car) was that mangled. Mr Fuller said he used a bobcat to remove a tree trunk that was on top of the car, which was also wedged between two trees. “There was two people in the front. It was little bit past that point (of us saving them).” Mr Fuller said he later returned to the crash scene to try to work out how the collision occurred. He believed the car had struck a stump near the roadside before it was wedged between the two trees. WA Police have not confirmed the make of the car or the ages of the three people who died. Another local resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said she heard a “loud rev” before impact. They said they didn’t hear any sound of the car attempting to brake before the crash. Following the fatal Easter long weekend on the roads, WA Minister Jessica Stojkovski said the Government had invested heavily in road safety. “The Government is always looking at ways to improve road safety and decrease our road toll,” she said. “You will have seen that we’ve had an increase in the number of cameras that we’ve had out on the roads targeting specific driver behaviours. “We have seen that those cameras have resulted in change in driver’s behaviour, so we are always looking at other ways that we can reduce the road toll.”
