
Winter is officially here, with Perth residents awaking to the coldest morning of the year.
Across the metropolitan area, the mercury has dropped to the low single digits on Tuesday morning.
Residents located near the Gingin Airport have been hit with the chilliest weather near the city, with temperatures reaching a low 0.3C at 6.20am.
Locals near the Wheatbelt aviation hub were left feeling even colder due to wind gusts — which reportedly left the town feeling closer to -0.5C.
Despite the town of Dwellingup only reaching a low of 1.3C on Tuesday morning, residents faced the coldest chill in the region with wind causing the temperature to feel closer to -2.4C.

Closer to the CBD, residents faced chattering teeth and goosebumps as temperatures remained low.
A spokesperson for the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed the chilly temperatures in the WA capital made Tuesday the coldest day of 2026 so far.
“For most sites across metropolitan Perth, it was the coldest morning of the year since July 2025,” a spokesperson said.
In the Swan Valley, temperatures hit a low of 1.3C — with the Millendon weather station reporting the cold mercury felt like -0.6C to residents.
Perth Airport in the city’s east only reached temperatures of 1.4C as of 6.30am on Tuesday.
Pearce remained the coldest suburb in the city, with a Bureau weather station recording a freezing 0.5C start to the day.
Residents near Garden Island were blessed with the warmest morning temperatures across the metropolitan area, however the naval base only reached a high of 10.3C.
The freezing temperatures come ahead of a partly cloudy day, with weather experts predicting the mercury to soar to a toastier 16C by mid-afternoon.
