Breaking down the mega trade

This was always tied to the Zak Butters move even though he will technically go through as a restricted free agent.

But what it effectively means is the Bulldogs have moved out of this year’s draft, giving up picks 12, 31 and a future first for Butters, Finn Maginness and Hudson O’Keefe.

Port Adelaide receive picks 6, 10 plus band one compensation (currently pick No.5) and a bunch of futures, for Butters, and pick 4.

Melbourne jump up two spots to pick 4 while sliding back from 10 to 12 and get picks 35 and 46 to enable an offer for Zane Duursma.

The Blues get a future fourth-rounder for Hudson O’Keefe while the Hawks get a future third for Finn Maginness.

MEGA TRADE

This is not a drill, the mega trade involving five clubs is on with AFL reportedly approving the move.

This is a lot to go through so bear with us.

Blakey makes his choice

Nick Blakey has reportedly selected North Melbourne as his preferred destination after doing a medical with the Roos this morning.

It will be interesting to see how the Roos find the draft capital to satisfy the Swans so some other deals may have to be done.

Bulldogs lodge paperwork for Butters

Here we go with Western Bulldogs reportedly submitting the paperwork for Zak Butters to AFL house.

A nine-year deal on the table, with Port Adelaide now having three days to match, which of course is highly unlikely, though there could be some side deals coming.

More on the Saints offer to Blakey

North Melbourne put an $11 million eight-year offer in front of Blakey yesterday.

But given he still has five years left on his contract at Sydney, the Swans will take the best trade on the table, and right now that’s the Saints.

Richmond won’t deal with Pies

Collingwood has been targeting Jayden Short, but the Tigers are not keen to give away the two-time premiership defender.

The 30-year-old has long been in the Pies’ sights, but Richmond are reportedly unhappy with Craig McRae’s efforts to get in his ear throughout the season, according to Tom Morris.

They are not keen on accepting a low ball offer and are hoping another club comes forward.

Marshall speaks on trade to Geelong

“I was a little bit disappointed at the time that it didn’t go through,” he said.

“Credit to the Saints for welcoming me back with open arms. At times, it was difficult, but I’m just happy to be with the Cats now.”

He also defended not attending the St Kilda best and fairest night.

“I didn’t feel comfortable at the time; I didn’t feel comfortable having a lot of interactions with people”.

“I couldn’t be any more grateful to St Kilda and the opportunity they gave me 10 years ago.

“It’s going to be so hard to move on because I am so close to so many people there, but I think it is time for a fresh start.”

Welcome

Good morning and welcome to day five of the AFL trade period and more importantly the final day of the free agency period.

Zak Butters and Ben King you would think get done today while clubs are lining up for Nick Blakey.

St Kilda are reportedly preparing a monster offer which would include three first rounders
